Premier Li Keqiang met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Beijing on July 8.
The Premier said that China always endeavors to maintain the international system centered on the United Nations and defend the purpose and principle of the UN Charter.
China actively pushes for dialogue and negotiation to settle disputes peacefully, and participates in the cooperation on addressing climate change and other global challenges, striving to make contributions to world peace and development, he added.
Premier Li pointed out that China, as the largest developing country in the world, values the combination of its development strategies with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, to promote common development.
Premier Li highly praised the contribution that Ban Ki-moon has made for promoting the relationship and cooperation of China and the United Nations, stressing that China is firmly supporting the work, safeguarding the authority and promoting the cause of the United Nations.
“China is willing to work together with every other country to promote peace and stability, development and prosperity of the world,” said the Premier.
Ban Ki-moon expressed condolences over the flood disaster in parts of China’s southern areas, and said that under the strong leadership of the government, the Chinese people will eventually win the combat against disasters.
He added that the United Nations appreciates China’s contribution to the work of disaster prevention and mitigation, and for sustainable development in the world. He hopes China can continue to play an important role in accomplishing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and coping with global challenges, including climate change.
